FRAZIERS BOTTOM, W.Va. – The West Virginia Department of Commerce joins Multicoat Products Inc. in celebrating the completion of its new East Coast headquarters in Putnam County. Commerce Secretary Keith Burdette and other state and local officials attended a grand opening with company executives Tuesday at Putnam Business Park in Fraziers Bottom.

“West Virginia is proud that Multicoat decided to make West Virginia its home base on the East Coast,” Commerce Secretary Keith Burdette said. “They started with a manufacturing plant in Putnam County and quickly saw all the strategic advantages we have to offer.”

California-based Multicoat manufactures pool, deck, concrete, floor, and wall coating materials. As the company grew, its leaders decided to step up East Coast operations to keep from shipping products across the country. They initially looked at several other sites, but the company’s West Virginia team convinced them to expand here.

“We are within 500 miles of 85 percent of the East Coast Sales area, which means better shipping times and lower costs,” Vice President John Dill said. “Upon hearing of possibly moving the operations, I called the late Gary Walton from the Putnam County Development Authority, who set the wheels in motion to get help to persuade the owners to keep the East Coast operations in West Virginia.”

Multicoat had five employees in West Virginia before the expansion and envisions having 30 by this time next year. Sales this year are up more than 30 percent and climbing, Dill said.

Before construction began in July 2014, Multicoat had been leasing space in Winfield. The new facility, scheduled for completion by mid-August 2015, will provide 25,000 square feet of manufacturing and warehouse space and 3,000 square feet of office space. The structure is situated on the site to allow for additional 40,000-square-foot expansion in the future.
